Lily’s Story:
Lily is a 4-year-old girl living with her four siblings, her mother and grandmother in a two-bedroom apartment. Her mother just lost her job and they recently had to move in with the grandmother. You notice that Lily does not come to school with a snack and within the first hour of being at school, she cries or becomes irritable. The school provides snacks for children who do not have their own and she always asks for more. One day she had an accident at school. When helping her change her pants, you noticed she had crackers from snack time stuffed in her pockets. Furthermore, she appears withdrawn from school activities, is always complaining about being cold, and has dark circles under her eyes.
Jorge’s Story:
Jorge is a 4-year-old boy who is the only child living with both parents who work full-time jobs. He spends his afternoons at his grandmother's house playing video games until his parents pick him up. Furthermore, Jorge’s parents shared with you that the pediatrician noticed his weigh is above average for his age and height. You notice that he does not participate with the other children on the playground and has a hard time waking up from naps. During story time, he is always yawning and laying back on the carpet. At snack time, His lunch box is full of sugary snacks and drinks.
