My Leadership Panache

The questionnaire on leadership style helped me to realize where do I stand as a leader. I do sometimes think that I’m too humble, and it does not give me the desired results being in the leadership role. I do debate to myself whether being a good team member is as equally essential or being a good leader when managing a team at the same time. The final score I received after the evaluation is 24, which falls under a democratic, participative leadership style.

Democratic and Participative Leadership

The result from the inquiry form was correct and matched with my leadership qualities. I do my homework on the problems to arrive at a decision, and at the same time, I will let my team give ideas and inputs to evaluate the decision. Most of the time, my choice is right, and I stick to it. But at times, I have seen situations where my conclusion on a problem or strategy may not be without flaws. Now comes the dispute between my ego to stick on to my decision with a few acceptable issues. Or to accept the reality and tailor or change my decision. “A democratic leadership style gets people to do what you want to be done but in a way that they want to do it” (Martinuzzi, 2019, para. 14). I agree with this statement, and I have experienced this in my organization.

Pros and Cons

This type of leadership has both rewards and downsides to it. The advantage of this type of leadership skill is that you get the involvement of the team members and get more ideas from different minds. When you get the team involved, the results are more than expected. The one disadvantage at this type is that when in a crisis, the team acceptance and time to convince the direction might take more effort than the autocracy style of leadership.
