Create/update your resume/curriculum vitae (cv). There are many free templates on

the internet. Should include: qualifications you have; qualifications you are studying

for and when you are likely to achieve them; paid job experience you have; volunteer

job experience you have eg helping a family member with horses; interests such as

sports and travel but NOT SHOPPING. Write new graduate rather than “fresh

graduate”. If you are applying for a post in Germany or with a German company add

a photograph to your resume.

Create/update your covering letter.

Create/update your profile on LinkedIn (it is free) and increase the number of

connections you have. Endorse and recommend your connections and they may

recommend you in return. Once you are connected to someone they may introduce

you to their connections. On LinkedIn apply to join groups by location and profession

such as ‘Female professionals in Saudi Arabia’ and ‘Evidence based design art design

group for interior designers’. You may wish to upgrade your LinkedIn membership to

Premium level when you are in your final semester because under Premium you can

have saved searches, reach out to more people.

Job fairs. Job agencies: sign up with job agencies eg Hays, Reed, Tauzeef Human

Resourcing.

Sign up to: Gulf Talent; Bayt.com; Naukri Gulf; monstergulf.com; Dubizzle.com;

UAEjobline.com; sa.indeed.com; Indeed.ae; binjos.com; recentlyjobs.com;

MySaudiJobs.

Check vacancy listings in newspapers/magazines, eg edarabia newsletter,

http://www.ismpost.com/.

Check employer websites for vacancies eg KPMG, Halliburton, Capita, InterServe.

Specific professions. There is a professional associations website list on the PMU

website under Resources, Library Services, Professional Associations.

When you are offered an interview research that company, ask your contacts about

that company, check the profiles of the people in the department you are applying to

work in on LinkedIn. Prepare an ‘elevator pitch’, a few sentences which summarise

your strengths. Prepare several questions to ask the interview panel. If you are
