JGR200: The Power of People

Week2 DQ

Part 1: Your Team Experience

COLLAPSE

Top of Form

This week, we learn about the different stages of development that teams experience. We also look at some key characteristics that successful teams share in order to see how a team becomes as effective as possible. Think of a team you have been part of (school, work, volunteer, etc.). Using the characteristics of an effective team that were discussed this week, explain whether or not your team was effective during its project and why.

Note: To receive full credit, remember also to write 2 posts in the discussion: one original and a response to another student. Remember one or two sentences does not qualify as a substantive learning post for both original and peer responses.  Show off what you have learned!

RE: Your Team Experience

Hello Classmates and Professor. In my job we offer what is called critical care. This is where a patient reaches end of life stages and transitioning occurs. Our bosses began forming CC teams that would help families care for their dying loved ones. As we all know this is a very difficult time in any caregiver or family's lives so choosing the people that take care of them in these times is crucial. First, it must be clearly explained and understood what the job is that each member is expected to do. There will be clear lines of communication needed, sharing of expertise and knowledge, as well as the actual delivery of quality care to the patient. We also offer social workers to the families as well as chaplain or other religious leader depending on the patient's personal religious beliefs. Our team always worked well together. We had our amazing RN who would go in and do intake and create a clear and detailed care plan letting all other clinical staff know exactly what was wrong with the patient and what course of treatment was needed. We all shared a common goal and that was to work as hard and closely as we could to see to it that this patient was as comfortable as possible, and had everything they needed to make this experience bearable for the family and the patient. We all work together to provide a high level of care not only to be good health care providers but to also build a solid reputation for the company we work for. When you work well together and have good chemistry and great communication skills it often much easier to have an effective team. It is also important when working as a team that each member contributes what they are there to do. Learning with each other only makes you stronger.
