Joe Gibbs is a masterful communicator because he can connect with any audience and effectively share his ideas. This week you've learned the different techniques leaders like Coach use to communicate with confidence.

Now, think of a leader or presenter whose communication has made an impact on you. (Maybe it’s a politician, a teacher, a coach, or a boss.) What communication techniques does this person use? Is there a particular technique you've learned this week that you would like to use in the future?

I had opportunities to observe the communication styles of many public figures and draw conclusions about them from what I observe. But that of President Barack Obama was not only outstanding but also inspiring. President Obama's communication style impacted me. He has exceptional communication skills. President Barack Obama is rightly considered an exemplary communicator. His rhetorical skills, and ability to paint pictures with words so that others not only see what he sees but feel it too, are what catapulted him into the national political consciousness. Obama’s demeanor serves to radiate assurance, something from which Americans in crisis can draw comfort. I rarely witness him going off-message like that guy.

 Obama has the verbal fluency to make his points crystal clear. One does not need to figure-out-what-he-really-meant like other politicians. He uses language that promotes effective communication and conflict resolution. It is generally acknowledged that President Obama is cool, calm, collected and level headed, thinking issues through carefully and not reacting spontaneously. He constantly strives to maintain integrity, so he chooses his words carefully, thoughtfully, and methodically to say what he means. This contrasts with the style of most politicians. He demonstrates a great deal of balance and strength in his use of words, affect, logic, empathy, reflection, imagery, and body language. His gesticulations during his speech delivery was a phenomenon. This balance, along with his fine mind and sense of passion, allows him to be an exceptionally effective communicator. He was largely a conversational and relaxed communicator. All these exquisite features of his communication style have not only stolen my admiration but also prompts me to emulate him and still be myself.
