Have you achieved your goals for this course?
I have faced many challenges during this course. I came into it expecting to jump in with my sleeve rolled up however, “life happens.” However, I can say that my expectations were met. Although I was unable to provide input in many of the discussions, I read each response from my cohorts in the discussion forum. The interactions were great, and I learned a great deal from reading the responses in addition to the reading materials for this course. I have been with the same company for over 30 years therefore, I have had the “pleasure” of having a variety of leader in addition to my leadership roles. Being able to identify the differences in styles was the most exciting part of the course. My goals and expectations for this course have been met. I have gained additional knowledge on the different Leadership Approach Models. In addition, I work in a team environment and have taken valuable information from this course to share with my teammates.
After completing this course, how has your idea of leadership changed?
I have been with the same company for over 30 years therefore, I have had the “pleasure” of having a variety of leaders with differing leadership styles that I have been able to identify from the course work. Being able to identify the differences in styles was the most exciting part of the course as I identified the styles of my direct supervisor as well as the others on our team.
Examine your description of the challenges of leadership. How well equipped are you at the end of this course to handle those challenges?
I have heard it said, “a good leader must first learn to follow.” This course has provided information as to the differing styles of leadership. The challenge that I face in my employment is that direct leadership is not readily available and for the most part the Situational Leadership Approach is most applicable. The knowledge that I have gained through this course allows me to identity with this style of leadership and therefore I am able to overcome some challenges working from home.
I am very close to retirement however, the knowledge that I have gained will prove beneficial in my role as a Pastoral Counselor.
It has been a pleasure.
