Amazon’s Information Technology Business Model

Many companies have taken their businesses online. Amazon is a giant among online businesses that are doing well using an online platform. Among many geeks and online shoppers, Amazon is known to be the largest seller of goods on the internet. Unlike some online businesses that sell products for manufacturers such as Alibaba, Amazon is known to be an online seller that sells its goods directly to the client. This is because it boasts a platform that allows the buyers and sellers to meet. Amazon keeps the inventory of the goods it sells to its buyers in its warehouses that are evenly distributed all over the world. Much of Amazons revenue is gained from the commission it receives by bringing the buyers and sellers together (Robin, 2020).

Cybersecurity laws that are pertinent to Amazon

Among many countries in the world that have applicable cybersecurity laws, the United States of America has one of the most robust laws. These laws established by the government rely on the government’s enforcement of the policies that have been established. The private sector is also involved in the enforcement of these laws. Thus, every online business and platform that involves the use of private data that is entered by users have to comply with the policies that have been established by the government.

The United States has been active in terms of cybersecurity for more than a decade now due to cyber security concerns of government and private sectors. This can be attributed to the rise of cyber-crimes within the US due to the growth of Information Technology and E-commerce sectors in turn causing a huge financial and personal identity losses (Singh, 2016). The Consumer Privacy Act of the United States of America seeks to ensure that the personal identity of online customers is kept as private so that crimes such as identity theft can be avoided at all costs. These laws have also been put in place to minimize security breaches that could lead to the loss of data within the platforms. Misuse of the client’s data is also prohibited by law. Generally, all the laws including state and federal are designed to work towards the protection of client information on all online platforms.

Evaluation of the current cyber laws

The federal government recently introduced several new cybersecurity laws. These laws were put in place to amend the older ones in the hopes of strengthening the ecosystem (Singh, 2016). The following are some of the laws that have been set up to help govern online businesses such as Amazon.

1. Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA)

This law has been established by the government to enhance cybersecurity in the United State of America. This is done primarily through the sharing of information and the potential cybersecurity threats that are faced by an online platform. Thus, this law has allowed the sharing of information about internet traffic between the government and companies. Thus, Amazon shares its online traffic information with the government.

2. Cybersecurity Enhancement Act

This act was passed into a bill in 2014. This law “provides an ongoing, voluntary public-private partnership to improve cybersecurity and strengthen cybersecurity research and development, workforce development and education and public awareness and preparedness (Singh, 2016).”

Cyber-law crimes

Within an organization, cyber-crime can be investigated by the organization’s team of professionals who are validated and experienced in cybersecurity. These professionals should be allowed to monitor every activity that has taken place in the organization’s website so that they can be able to identify any suspicious activity. In the case that a cyber-breach happens, the organization will lose the integrity and the credibility it has on its online platform. Businesses can then become susceptible to loss of clients due to their fear of data theft.

In order to ensure that its platform is secure the organization is responsible for the staffing of security professionals charged with network and online activity monitoring of users and employees. This can be done to prevent the induction of any malware that might be used to extract data from the online platform. The organization should also encourage all users of the platform against sharing their login credentials, as well as, saving their credit and debit card information.

Cybercrime and e-commerce

In order to prevent e-commerce cyber related crimes an organization should not allow its users to have complete access to all information within the portal. This means that the buyers do not have access to personal information about the sellers such as their financial statements. Secondly, the sellers are not given access to important information about buyers such as their credit card information and other personalized data. This is done to further secure the platform and stay within regulation. The same cyber law that allows the government to have access to all online traffic from manufacturers and companies also allows the government to take care of potential cyber threats from external sources. With this, the government has given the FBI the mandate to investigate all cyber-attacks in the US. The FBI is responsible for the collecting and sharing of Intel while working to expose those behind malicious cyber activities no matter where they reside (FBI, 2016).
