a) Write an overall behavioral goal you want to achieve by changing a behavior
this semester.
I want to decrease the amount of time I typically spend on Facebook a day.
b) Operational Definition: Select one behavior (target behavior) you are going to
change that will help you reach your overall goal and write a behavioral objective
to include an operational definition that is specific and measurable.
Reduce my Facebook usage to no more than 2 hours per day.
By the end of the semester, the individual will have decreased their daily social media usage.
c) Identify your specific method of measurement (e.g. frequency, latency,
duration)
Frequency- Record how many days I actually achieve my goal.
Duration – Record the amount of time the person spends on the Facebook outlet using screen time.
Latency- Measuring the time I actually opened up Facebook from the time I actually picked up my device.
d) Explain how and why you selected this goal and behavioral objective.
I selected this goal and behavioral objective because I spend most of my time each day on Facebook. It is one of my biggest distraction. Also, the path to this goal is measurable and the behavioral objective can be met.
Baseline Data Collection: Present an assessment of your baseline level of behavior to include observation and self-recording. Your assessment must include the following:
1. An “ABC” diary/chart with an “antecedent—behavior—consequences” format. (Be sure to record both when target behavior is and is not occurring.) e.g. ABC Analysis

1. Describe how you conducted the self-observation and the specific type of recording method used.
I used screen time on my iPhone to conduct the self-observation. In the settings of screen time I was able to directly focus on my Facebook usage and was also able to evaluate my time and usage for the 6 days prior.
2. Analyze the patterns that have emerged during baseline data collection.
After Analyzing the data, I see that I mostly used Facebook on Thursday and Friday, which are times that are not usually as hectic and I am able to use Facebook more freely.
3. Develop a hypothesis as to why the targeted behavior is or is not occurring at the level you are seeking. Integrate course concepts.
Things in my daily life just fall into place so I sometimes find myself using the social media outlet, Facebook without keeping track with the time. I think that after actually acknowledging the time that I spend on Facebook because of screen time management, I am shaping myself in a sense to get better results as a sense of reinforcement.
4. Explain how you will continue data collection during your intervention phase (type of data, recording method).
I will continue collecting my data by checking the screen time management every 7 days on Tuesdays to get accurate and consistent numbers. I will not look at screen time every day because I will be forced to adapt and try to make changes to my Facebook daily usage.
The assignment aims at discussing and giving data analysis of my behavioral change towards doing things and how that is going to reflect in my studies this semester. Data is collected and analyzed graphically with detailed discussions into how the pattern of behavior influences my academic performance in the end. Time spent on Facebook is the main behavior that I want to change by decreasing it to under 2 hours a day. By doing this, I target to reduce the daily social media usage greatly and impact the same on studies. My specified method of operation to achieve this is by frequency to record how many days by the end of the semester I shall have achieved my goal (Reddy, Smyth, & Steyn, 2017). Use of duration analysis will also help me in recording the amount of time spent on Facebook using screen time. I selected this goal and behavioral objective since I spend most of my time on Facebook, making it my biggest distraction. Finally, the selected path is measurable, and the behavioral objective can be met.
My continued data collection in the intervention phase will involve a more elaborate recoding method of using a combination of graphs and charts to analyze data in the SPSS system. The data will also be more advanced and entail surveys through interviews and questionnaires even to the external sources (Reddy, Smyth, & Steyn, 2017). An approach of this kind will help integrate a more advanced method of analyzing how behavior works in off of social media and how it affects individuals.
My intervention plan to change behavior is through the use of more group engagements to restrict idleness that comes with sole studying and learning. The group works in doing assignments and at games times give more exercise to the brain and promote active corporations to academic involvements. Reinforcements here include engaging myself in group discussions and extinctions from social media networks by quitting my Facebook groups that consume a lot of my time (Positive Reinforcement Contingencies, 2018). However, the main obstacles to permanently changing my social media behavior is by still joining some discussion groups that would want my share of Facebook times such as in WhatsApp with friends and group members. To come out these obstacles I would prefer us of directing texts or the short messages to convey information other that the social media platforms. Additional alternatives include to use alarms to time myself with the timing of my daily programs.
The various types of rewards and reinforcements I utilize include the setting of time in gaming such as in playing the baseball to avoid idleness and maintain my activeness at all times outside class work, (Positive Reinforcement Contingencies, 2018). I will also maintain commitment by ensuring my group of participants also form active roles in reminding one another of what activities are scheduled and at what time. I will perform progress review through doing self and group tests and talking to the lecturers for marking and correcting will also play an important part in my change of behavior.
