Where is the title of the paper and the introduction? Comment by Jeanette Plodek: An Introduction identifies your topic, why it is important, what is it’ cost/impact and then tells the reader generally what will be discussed in the paper. The focus of the introduction is not the assignment but the problem. It is not required or needed to mention everything the paper will cover. As the first 2-3 paragraphs will be the introduction, let’s expand more and add strength to the introduction. Add some facts and cost/impact of mental health. For example. According to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, untreated mental illnesses are a growing concern in the United States. In the United States, about 43.8 billion adults have a mental illness – this is equal to 1 in 5 adults. And among these adults, 60% were left untreated in 2011 (Brunt, 2016). Approximately 17 million children in the US have or have had a mental illness, but most are not treated. According to the Children’s Mental Health Report by the Child Mind Institute, 80% of children with anxiety are not receiving treatment, along with 40% of children with diagnosable ADHD/ADD and 60% of children with diagnosable depression. Untreated mental illnesses have a severe impact on the nation’s economy. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI,2018), untreated mental illnesses cost about $100 billion a year in lost productivity (Bimpong, 2017; Young, 2017; Szabo 2014). This paper will explore the connection between untreated mental health issues or conditions in the community and the impact it has on the community as a whole as well as nurse partnering to promote healthy living.

Where is the first half of the paper ?

Literature Review/Search Comment by [email protected]: Let’s tell the reader how the information was found and what information found. Remember one is just telling the reader where the information or evidence was found. This whole paper is a literature review of what you found on these topics. For example: To locate information on ….. an in-depth search for information was conducted using Google Scholar, ProQuest, and EbscoHost. The keywords for the search included suicide, suicide prevention, depression, trauma informed care, and mental health nursing. Then transition into the Community Health Objectives When one has a heading, one needs to add a paragraph to help transitional from the introduction and/or heading into next heading or section. Transitional statements https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/transitions/ When writing, you need to “hook” things or key facts together and explain the connection. The difference between an A and a B is not just about the right answer but how well you present the answer.

Community Mental Health Objectives Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Effectiveness of Telehealth for Mental Healthcare. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5723163/ Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Identify the Healthy People 2020 objectives For example. Reduce the Suicide Rate Increase Homeless Access to Mental Healthcare Transitions https://www.scribendi.com/advice/student_writing_guide_to_transitions.en.html Use a few transitional statements to move into the objectives you have selected to discuss. When one has a heading, one needs to add a paragraph to help transitional from the heading into the level two heading. Transitional statements https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/transitions/

Objective # 1 Comment by Jeanette Plodek: I know the template says objective #1 but please use a title such as Onsite Referral, Reducing Teen Suicide, Increasing Access…..

Objective #2 Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Expand each objective and discuss how this problem could impact the community. What can Nursing do within the community to make a difference?

Connection between Physical and Mental Health Comment by Jeanette Plodek: https://psychcentral.com/lib/the-relationship-between-mental-and-physical-health/ Can physical health impact mental health?

Health is wealth. Health would be described as a state of complete, physical, social, and mental wellbeing and not necessarily the absence of illness or infirmity. Health further alludes to the functional efficiency of the living beings and the general coordination of the human being's mind, body, and spirit, implying that one is free from illness, injuries, and pain. Good health would be the secret of every happy man while staying healthy. It is critical for the proper growth in youngsters as it will enable them to stay focused in classes and effectively participate in other activities. Maintaining good health is a matter of concern; hence maintenance of a healthy living and a disciplined life is a must ("How does mental illness impact our physical body?" n.d.). There are various ways in which the mental and psychological wellbeing of individual impacts on physical wellbeing, which is the focus of the essay.

Impacts of the psychological wellbeing on the physical health

One of the links between mental and physical health is tied to longevity. Most studies have concluded that people with various forms of mental health challenges, including cases of schizophrenia ad depressions, tend to have a shorter life span compared to ordinary people. Respiratory challenges, heart diseases, cancer risks are higher in people with mental challenges as they are less likely to seek medical attention. On the other hand, poor physical health can also contribute to the likelihood of developing psychological issues ("Physical health and mental health," 2020).

Studies reveal that there is a linkage between the high levels of mental distress and the increased probability of dying from cancer. It is often likely that the people who have mental challenges and psychological issues will engage in unhealthy habits, including smoking of tobacco, excessive intake of alcohol, unprotected sex, and unhealthy eating habits, which in turn impacts their physical health adversely. Increased cases of overeating among people who have psychological disorders lead to higher cases of overweight and obesity among such people leading to heart diseases, increased risks of suffering from diabetes, among other illnesses. Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Cite source

Poor physical health such as being overweight, obese of testing positive for HIV, cancers, diabetes among other illnesses often make clients develop a negative image of themselves and further lowered self-esteem, which slowly builds into stress, anxieties, and depressive situations. In case individual experiences physical health issues such as suffering firm cancer, there are higher chances of experiencing psychological distress, anxieties, and stress. Based on the fact that the illness has no cure the client acknowledges that the chances of survival are minimal and in case they recover from the illness there are minimal chances of resuming healthy life and engaging in daily activities as they used to ("How does mental illness impact our physical body?" n.d.). The treatment process for such illnesses is often characterized by excruciating pains and is financially draining, leaving clients at state f financial distress. All these adverse effects of the illnesses will lead to the clients developing mental challenges, such as most of the patients will be depressed.

Trauma Informed Care Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Let’s define trauma and Trauma Informed Care and describe how it can be used. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/real-healing/201806/eating-disorders-trauma-and-ptsd-part-1 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK44242/ https://medium.com/@bradyhummel/historical-trauma-the-confluence-of-mental-health-and-history-in-native-american-communities-5513985836c5 http://tpcjournal.nbcc.org/examining-the-theory-of-historical-trauma-among-native-americans/ http://www.traumainformedcareproject.org/index.php https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/trauma-informed-care-what-it-is-and-why-its-important-2018101613562 https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/modern-day-slavery/201707/trauma-informed-care-and-why-it-matters https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4100239/ Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Maybe one should ask what can be done? https://projecthealingwaters.org/ https://islanddolphincare.org/therapies-old/veteran-program/ steinhardt.nyu.edu/scmsAdmin/uploads/000/717/Elizabeth%20Cantwell.pps https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/227952/u-s-house-approves-funds-for-veterans-equine-therapy https://www.militarytimes.com/veterans/2018/03/07/veterans-with-ptsd-are-turning-to-horses-for-healing/

Trauma-informed care in children

Following the CDC statistics of abuse and violence, one would infer the bitter truth that such cases are sobering in the United States. The reports indicate that at least one in every four children experience at least some form of maltreatment, either physical, sexual, emotional, or other forms of abuse. One in every forum, women experiences domestic violence cases with at least one in every five women experiencing rape cases. All such cases of abuse lead to trauma among children and affected parties. Trauma-informed care alludes to the understanding and taking into account the pervasive nature of trauma while adopting the promotion of healing environments and conducive recovery situations rather than practices that can inadvertently re-traumatize. The trauma-informed care rests on the presumptions that an individual is likely to have experienced trauma in the past and acknowledges the role played by trauma in an individual's life. Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Cite the sources for factual statements

Some of the steps that can be taken to support the traumatized child include recognition of the widespread impacts that trauma can have on the child and hence determine paths for recovery. Recognition of signs and symptoms of trauma in the child, full integration of knowledge about the trauma into policies, procedures, practices, and seeking actively to enable the child to resist re-traumatization(Panlilio, 2019). The trauma-informed care furthest plays a critical role in enabling the service providers, parents, and the available systems to recognize and amicably respond to the needs of the young ones who are experiencing trauma. Some of these symptoms might include heightened aggression, weak social interactions, impulsivities, substance abuse, struggling academically, and increased cases if engaging in risky behaviors. The TIC enables parents to detect such behaviors and offer them insight on effective ways of engaging with the children by assisting them in coping with the trauma, supporting their emotional regulation capacities and maintenance, or predictable routines while using amicable behavior management practices.

Trauma-informed care enhances the productivity of the child-serving systems through the promotion of a common language. The development of a common language is critical in creating a collective understanding of the child suffering from trauma and determining the effective means of addressing its impacts (Panlilio, 2019). It also acts as a powerful tool for developing shared goals and mechanisms, enabling the parents, caregivers, and the institution to develop an environment that adequately meets the child's needs. The trauma-informed care enables all members of society to regard their role in the alienation of childhood trauma such as the juvenile systems, education centers, judges early childhood educators among others as they all play a critical role in buffering the adverse impacts of the childhood trauma and in the prevention of occurrence of the same. Trauma-informed care also helps parents cope with their cases of trauma, which will further enable them to transfer such skills to teenagers and young children (Gerber, 2019). For instance, the parents who were neglected in their childhood might end up maltreating their children; similar caregivers who handle people with the traumatic case may experience challenges such as burnout and in regulating their own emotions. The trauma-informed cares enable such people to work through their reactions to trauma and hence enhance their effectiveness in enabling children to overcome trauma.

Where is the Conclusion

Conclusion Comment by Jeanette Plodek: Conclusion A conclusion paragraph, summarizes the key points the paper has discussed and then draws a conclusion from what was presented in the paper. Note how the last statement is the author’s conclusion. For Example: Between 25 and 50% of adult mental illness may be prevented through early intervention in childhood and adolescence. The economic benefits of early childhood interventions have been estimated on average to exceed their costs by a ratio of 1:6 (SAMHSA, 2018). One person alone can’t cannot change these statistics but Nurses partnering with local health, social care, education, youth and criminal justice services, non-governmental and voluntary sector community organizations, can help create a path for change (Breitinger, 2018). These pathways and services help identify and treat, mental ill-health such as depression. Thus, not only providing treatment for not only one person but just maybe also impacting the lives of people around them in their community. Just think how things might have been changed for so many people if one child had received treatment before killing 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
