Project issues are something that every project manager has to deal with. Project issues are similar to risk bust not every project issue has to result in a problem. Dealing with project issues requires a plan to implement strategies just like project management.

Creating a register is the first step in dealing with project issues. Identify the issues and record them into one document to make it easy to track and resolve them. If the issues are not recorded will be lost in the shuffling of the project.

Ensure timely and prompt reporting of the progress of the issues. Any delay in reporting loses the chance of resolving the issue before it turns in to a problem. Communication is important and the channels of communication should remain open.

Logging of issues is crucial in project management. Give clarity of who can log issues and make sure that is done. If this is not done, it gives more cracks in a project and the project may fall apart. There is a need to keep a record of this process. It might hold the key to some solutions to the issues.

Another important element is the assignment of actions. Make sure the responsibilities are clearly defined. Clear ownership of who is identifying the issues, tracking, and giving solutions makes it easier.

Techniques to increase stakeholder support for the project

Getting the full support of every stakeholder is a difficult thing to pull mostly with different categories of stakeholders. A project may seem to be progressing smoothly without the full support of the stakeholder and suddenly take a turn to the worst. Here are the six techniques used to get the full back up from all the project stakeholders.

First, the project manager needs to know what motivates the stakeholders of the project. Gain an understanding of what motivates every single stakeholder. Different stakeholders may be motivated by different things, some by financial rewards and others by the opportunity for their professional development. The best way is to establish the link between the company goals, the project, and maintain the value of the stakeholders.

Another key technique is telling the truth always. Sometimes the truth is not what everyone wants to hear but it builds trust. Environmental factors such as negative culture, lack of trust, and low morale make the stakeholders feel their contribution is not appreciated. Any disconnect between the project manager and the sponsors, team, and the functional unit will lower the level of trust.

Making the stakeholders understand the importance of their contribution to the project is key in buying them-in. determine how the project goals are going to benefit each stakeholder, communicate, and give them the freedom of sharing thoughts and ideas
