ITN-260 Network Security

Research Paper Requirements, Options, and Outline

The ITN 260 Network Security Course has a Research Paper requirement that makes up 10% of the total grade. The research paper will consist of 5 typed pages (not counting the title page) double spaced and Times New Roman 12 font.

Students have two options of topics:

Option One:

Product Review: Students will choose a product related to “Network Security” to review and write 5 pages following the outline below . Example of products could be network/enterprise firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, Authentication, ID Management, security assessment, security monitoring, other security management and controls, etc.

· Title page (product name, student name, date, etc.)

· Introduction

· Product purpose, features and functions

· Research findings (product capacity, market share, target market, cost, strengths, weaknesses, etc.)

· Recommendations and conclusions

· References

Option Two:

Case Study: Students will choose an actual case related to “Network Security” to review and write 5 pages following the outline below. The case may be related to a security incident, breach, hacking, intrusion, data loss, identity theft, DOS attack, malware, etc.

· Tile page (case name, student name, date, etc.)

· Introduction

· Case /event / incident description (what happened and how)

· Impact of the incident / event (what was the loss or negative impact on the organization)

· Lessons learned (how it could have been prevented and what was done to prevent similar incidents in the future, etc.)

· Recommendations and conclusions

· References
