Patrick’s Slides (Middleware)
Slide 1: What is Middleware? Types of Middleware?
Slide 2: How is Middleware used in SaaS?
Slide 3: How is Middleware used in this application?
Notes: In Progress
Slide 1: Middleware works to bridge applications and operating systems. It provides the connection between the user and the information the user wants to see. (Gazis and Katsirii, 2022). It is the software layer in between applications and operating systems (Rouse, 2017).
Slide 2: Middleware is used in SaaS to send information from an API to a back-end server or servers and sends information from them back to the user using an API. (Red Hat, 2022)
Slide 3: Middleware is used in this application of Ebay to send information from the website, to the server, to the Ebay item database and back to the user. Without middleware, the Ebay store would not be available on many devices at once, accessible from anywhere. (Kumara et al., 2020)
Torrey’s Slides (Operating System)
Vendor: SalesForce
Slide 1: What is Operating System? Types of Operating Systems?/ Picture of various operating Systems / # 1/2 Note
Slide 2: Discuss application programming interface (API) / Picture of API in SaaS infrastructure #3 Note
Slide 3: Future of SaaS management software #4 Note
Notes:
#1 While the OS itself does not directly impact SaaS, it plays a role in supporting the infrastructure and environment needed to deliver SaaS applications. The service provider's infrastructure (SalesForce), which includes servers, storage, and networking, typically runs on a specific operating system. The choice of OS depends on factors such as security, scalability, compatibility, and management requirements.
#2 Moreover, the OS on the user's device (eBay), such as a computer or mobile device, may affect the compatibility and performance of the SaaS application. SaaS providers often strive to ensure that their applications are compatible with popular operating systems like Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, allowing users to access the services seamlessly.
#3 APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) play a crucial role in SaaS (Software as a Service) infrastructure by allowing different software applications to communicate and exchange data with each other in a standardized way. This enables SaaS providers to offer integrations with other tools, automate workflows, and provide a seamless user experience for their customers. APIs also facilitate the development of custom solutions that can be built on top of existing SaaS products, which can help to extend their functionality and increase their value.
#4 SaaS providers are increasingly offering more advanced features and integrations with other software tools to provide a more comprehensive solution for their customers. As more businesses move towards digital transformation and cloud-based solutions, the demand for SaaS is only expected to continue to grow. One such management tool is SaaSOps, refers to the practice by which Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications are discovered, managed, and secured through centralized and automated operations.

Notes:
Check the efficiency of your broadband service
It is important that your business can update the eCommerce store, so a high performance broadband connection is vital. Today with so many online stores to choose from, consumers won't wait for a slow server, so also look closely at how your ISP is connected to the internet.
Is security built into the server platform?
Taking card payments from consumers requires the servers that your business uses to comply with PCI. However, also look at the data security that your server offers. This should protect your store from malicious code.
Specify a server platform that expands as your business does
eCommerce continues to be a rapidly developing retail channel. With more mobile shopping also becoming popular, ensure your eCommerce server platform can expand as your business needs change.

Are Virtual Private Servers or dedicated servers available?
With shared web hosting, you share the server with countless other companies. It’s slower and has more frequent downtime. There are also more limitations on the applications you can use.
Shared hosting is the most affordable option when you’re just getting started, but as you grow, you will need either a virtual private server (VPS) or dedicated hosting.
Look for service providers with high levels of server up time
As your business can only sell goods or services when it is live, partner with a service provider that has the IT experience to ensure their servers are always available. Build 24/7 IT support into the contract to ensure that technical issues are dealt with quickly.
