IT Database Design Project

Purpose of the database.

This is a proposal for a computer-based housing/ leasing management system. This is a system that will be helpful in record keeping, updating information and sending out notifications to customers. Using database as a location to store this data.

Description of the project

In this digitized world, data stored and located on a database or in the cloud is very helpful for numerous business-related operations, analysis, growing business and operational maintenance. There could be numerous tasks that one can think of which could be accomplished with the stored data, creating reports, generating charts, etc. This type of control over a business operation is desired in any business operation.

Information from the tenant and/or lease applicants is required by the property management. This is also required to synchronize with other essential government services like postal, electricity, sewer, water and police and fire department, census, etc.

With the customers information available in a centralized location, property management has the capability to vet and perform background checks on new and existing customers.

Property owners with a few properties could utilize such an application to improve their operations.

Users of the database:

The possibility of using such an application could be set in two categories, the processors and the users. The data processors can be used by the property management to verify background information, capability of the proposed rent amount payments, working with insurance agencies for the property, etc.

The information available in the database from the property management could be used by the census department for its own applications and data needs.

The applicant for leasing a property could also use an interactive webpage for entering information and making payments. The applicants are not a direct user of the database but are a source of a data for this application.

Phases of project development

The traditional project development method includes six basic phases for an appropriate and a well-designed project.

· Initiation Phase

· Definition phase

· Design phase

· Development Phase

· Implementation phase

· Follow-up/ enhancement phase.

Timeline project development

The proposed timeline for this project is 8 weeks. This project will implement a waterfall methodology.
