Use-Case: Add Reading
1 Brief Description
When a glucose sensor
Makes a glucose reading
The reading is logged
So that patients and physicians can later review patient history, and an alert can be generated if
necessary
2 Actor Brief Descriptions
2.1 Glucose Sensor – the monitoring device that makes the reading
3 Preconditions
The glucose monitoring app has generated an alert.
4 Normal Flow of Events
The use case begins when the glucose monitoring device sends a glucose reading to the
smartphone.
1. The system adds the reading to the patient’s local history
2. The system buffers the reading for later transmission.
3. The use case ends
5 Alternative Flows
5.1 The glucose reading generates an alert
If after step 2 of the normal flow the reading satisfies an alert condition:
2.2 The system creates an Alert for the current glucose reading.
2.3 The system buffers the Alert for later transmission to medical staff.
2.4 The system triggers immediate transmission of buffered data.
2.5 The ‘Patient View/Respond to Alert’ use case is invoked.
The normal flow is rejoined at step 3
6 Key Scenarios
6.1 The glucose reading is within normal levels
6.2 The glucose reading is outside normal levels
7 Post-conditions
7.1 The glucose reading is buffered locally for later transmission
7.2 The glucose reading is buffered locally for transmission, an alert is buffered locally
for transmission, transmission has been triggered, and a patient alert has been
generated
