On Year 3, since our strategy is to expand gradually all over the country and invest in 3D printing technology for production and logistics automation, we will consider Research and Development as an independent Business process (outside Production business unit) and use an additional software package dedicated for 3D printing management. However, since 3D printing will play a fundamental role in our company's development, we will manage this business process with an in-house develop software application.

Additionally, our company size will grow significantly, forcing the company to optimize the HR management and accounting processes, combining the used software packages into one unified ERP system, Workday.

We will try and incorporate Business Intelligence results to our Product Development and Innovation processes, enriching our product differentiation with the market knowledge and predicted trends.

You attended a conference on Mobile Apps that claimed “ Mobile Apps Can Do Everything”.  To prove this claim right or wrong, redraw your Long Range Planning Matrix  but use Mobile Apps from Android, IPhone or other suppliers to determine if you can support your entire business with Mobile Apps. Give your conclusions in two sentences (max). Also, IoTs and Cyber-physical systems (e.g., robots and drones) are becoming very popular. Can you find places for these technologies in your Application Matrix.

In Year 3, since our strategy is to gradually expand across the nation, it may be somewhat difficult to support the entire business through mobile applications, but not impossible. We need to ensure that our 3D printing technology is up-to-date with the AutoCAD software, and if we can send our final designs straight to our warehouse so they can be printed.

With our ERPs such as Finance and HR Management, Contract Management Software, Marketing, and Business Intelligence, a lot of mobile applications already exist which we can utilize to run our business online through our apps.

In Year 5, the company will continue to grow and by this point, running the business using mobile apps seems like a good idea, as more applications are available and we have actually consolidated some of our EAPs (for example, previously, we were using Facebook for our marketing efforts, but we have learned that ZoHo provides a marketing feature, as well as Human Resources solutions).

The rest of the EAPs will remain the same, and the company will continue to use Power BI through an app, along with AutoCAD for the 3D printing feature.

Part B: Technology Plan

17

Computing Platforms

client devices – example: phones, pcs

Internet

Computing platforms:

The computing platform is something which enables to run the computer system with the help of process, operating systems with relevant run time librabries and end users.

Computing platforms has got various capabilities, price ranges right from various devices to advanced computers so that different user needs and data processing workloads can be addressed.

18

Cloud Computing Strategies:

The company could opt to utilize public cloud as a cost saving mechanism, and ease of access through multiple devices in different locations. Cost reduction can be achieved through renting of cloud space and services instead of owning a server. Also, technical staff working online can cut the cost of having staff placed in various locations.

Business processes computed over the cloud could rely on SaaS providers. Example of services that can be undertaken include Marketing, Human resource management, purchasing, warehouse management, research and development, operations monitoring etc.

Advantages of Cloud Computing:

●Reduced capital and operating costs as organization only pays for the required capacity. There’s an option of temporary purchase of additional disk space when need arises

●There’s flexibility in accessing new technology without high cost risks. It is also easy to revert back to previous technology if the new way isn’t working properly.

●Using cloud computing favors both large and small business. The versatility is good for scaling, whereby the company utilizes the pay-per-use model

●Using established cloud service providers with better security experience increases data safety as opposed to relying on in-house security in cases of small companies.

Computing Platforms

There are list of benfits utilizing cloud computing

1. Cost effectiveness

2. Security towards the data management.

3. Continous availability

4.Spontinous

5.Scalability

6. Enhancement in the productivity

7. Better Performances.

19

Computing Platforms

Emerging computing technologies - Quantum Computing:

●Quantum computing is fairly still a new technology, and there are a lot of uncertainties regarding its execution in business. Nevertheless, it can be used in advanced cryptography for security of virtual assets for the company e.g designs and other information (Klint, 2021).

●Advanced data analysis is possible through quantum computing. For instance enormous amount of data can be analyzed using computation models that aren’t possible to sustain with digital processing. Pattern matching can allow the company to predict forthcoming trends (Klint, 2021).

The functionality of Quantum computing is to do calculations on the object's state before it is measured. The quantam computing is something related to artificial intelligence where the systems can be utilized for creating virtual environment which can enhance the process rapidly with less expensiveness. The method will also enable the research with latest enhancements.

This database model is focused on what data is needed and how is organized instead of what operation will be performed on data.  Moreover, the main objectives of using this database are:

1-  Guarantee that all data objects required for our business model are represented.

2-  Be able visualize the database at the conceptual level.

3- This database structure helps to determine  the relational tables, primary and foreign keys and stored procedures.

4-  to help to have a clear picture of the database, thus, be used by database developers to create a physical database.

5-  it will help to identify possible missing or redundant data.

Regardless the time spent during the creation of  this database , the results will make the IT infrastructure cheaper and faster. (Taylor, David 2021)

Structured Data

The main aspect of Business Intelligence is to supply businesses with actionable insights that will help decision-making. Furthermore, the critical part of BI implementation includes the following technologies, such as data source, ETL, Data Warehouse, Online Analytical processing cubes, Data Marts and Reporting BI tools.

The data warehouse is the core element of this BI architecture. The data warehouse maintains the information predefined format, structured,  classified, and purged of errors. Because the data is not preprocessed, will be necessarily ETL tools or data integration tools that will process the raw data from the initial sources and send it to a warehouse in three consecutive steps called data extraction, data transformation, and data loading.

The Big data in this architecture is the data in the enormous form on which technologies can be applied. On the other hand, the data warehouse is the collection of historical data from different operations in an enterprise. Moreover, Big data is technology to store and manage a large amount of data. Differently, the warehouse is an architecture to used to organize the data. Furthermore, big data can handle all kinds of data from unstructured and structured. However, the data warehouse can only take structured data as an input. Besides, Hadoop will be used to better handle the enormous amount of data at Big data. Nevertheless, the data warehouses can not handle an enormous amount of data.

Finally, the company will have Apache Hive on the top Hadoop, providing data summarization, query and analysis.

This network infrastructure is the platform that supports the network. It provides the stable and reliable channel over which our communications can occur.

The network infrastructure contains three categories of network components:

End devices

Intermediary devices

Network media

Also this slide exemplifies the most common network infrastructure that will be use by Connie's Clothing Store

Local-area network (LAN): A network infrastructure that provides access to users and end devices in a small geographical area.

Wide-area network (WAN): A network infrastructure that provides access to other networks over a wide geographical area.

The high-level budget is $500k, with the following division:

Information Technology – $200K

SaaS infrastructure - $40K

Databases and Data Warehousing-$60K

Network Infrastructure - $30K

Hardware - $70K

Enterprise Applications - $300K

IBM Cognos - $3.6K

SugarCRM - $51K

E2Open - $50K

SAP -$50K

Workday ERP- 20K

Docusign - $24.9K

Networks and the Web Technologies

All the estimations have been done for one year, but IT costs and EAPs will vary depending on if they are purchased as a SaaS or as an on-premise/perpetual license solution.

In the estimate for IT infrastructure, we are considering spending most of the budget in required hardware and cover the computing costs with cloud-friendly systems:

Enablers to support SaaS infrastructure with cloud providers such as AWS or Google Cloud, that support the web technologies mentioned previously and have pricing calculators available. The cloud infrastructure recommended for SMB for AWS is around $3K per month, depending on the data storage and data balancing requirements.

Databases and Data Storage, with Apache tools which are free so we would need to only pay for the physical storage (database hardware)

Network infrastructure to develop private and public networks that the company will use.

Possible Hardware needed for in-house development and support other IT functions, which are usually a high cost upfront but it is amortized during the following years.

For enterprise applications and ERP systems, supposing the estimate is from Year 3:

IBM Cognos, which we will start renting as a service until we see real value. Price depends on the number of concurrent users of the platform ($10x30usersx12months=$3.6K)

SugarCRM and E2Open are covering critical activities for the business, so the company will spend more in these two applications to own them.

Price depends on number of concurrent users and type of CRM solution chosen for SugarCRM. We suppose we will have 25 users and a Sugar Professional Solution ($85x50usersx12months= $51K)

For E2Open, we will acquire a perpetual license and require some integration.

SAP ERP, rented as a service until it returns some business value. We will use their cloud limited license for CRM with 30 users (130$x30usersx12months=$50K)

Workday ERP, rented as a service. Price is per user and per year of contract (100$x200employees=$20K)

Docusign, also rented as a service to cover our legal bases when the company is managing legal documents. We will use their Standard plan and it will be based on the  number of concurrent users ($25x83usersx12 months= $24.9K)

SPACE Games - Priyanka

Games Used: Digital Transformation Game, PISA (Enterprise Modeler, Network Advisor), Business Strategic Planning Game, Project Failure Game

Lessons Learned:

Creating a strategic business plan when you first build your company helps to determine how you can attain those targets, and if you should change your objectives to meet your goals. It is important to do that initially, so you don't have to change a lot later

It is good to note ways that your business may fail, so you can avoid repeating that mistake if you are on that path to do so. Learning about the ways that you can be successful can encourage other companies to follow your model to succeed.

SPACE Games - Raquel

Games Used: Digital Transformation Game, PISA (Enterprise Modeler, Application advisor), Business Strategic Planning Game, Mobility Planning

Lessons Learned:

It is critical to identify the business' primary activities when doing an enterprise application architecture, protecting critical business processes with in-house development instead of buying or renting

We can rent first some applications and buy them after if we see long term business value

Our Enterprise Architecture and IT infrastructure should correctly identify the functional blocks and enable mobility planning when competing in a highly fluctuating market such as retail.
