Discussion Instructions:

Step 1: Select a Concept or Theory from the Unit 1 Chapter(s)

Review Chapter 2, Chapter 6, and/or Chapter 8 (and the My Thoughts Pages) and select a concept, theory, or principle that you found interesting and want to use to make an application.

Step 2: Choose a "Text" for your Application

To complete your discussion post, you will need to apply your selected concept, theory, or principle to something...in the Communication field we call that something a "text."  A text can be anything!

For example, you could choose to analyze a current event, a social media post/movement/challenge, a meme, a binge-worthy series or movie, a musical album, a music video, a play, a piece of art, a comic book/strip, a speech, an article of clothing, an artist, or even a personal experience from your life…the possibilities are endless! Just find a “text” that you can discuss and analyze.

Step 3: Choose a "Medium" for your Application

In the Communication field, a medium is similar to a channel...it is the format or final product with which you will submit your discussion post.

This is where your creativity comes into play.  It could be a traditional paragraph explaining the application, or it could be something like a painting, drawing, a song or lyrics, a video, a meme, a blog, a poem, a slide deck…again the possibilities are endless!  I challenge you to be as creative as possible as you demonstrate to me where you see the Interpersonal Communication concept, theory or principle that you selected in your every day life.

Step 4: Post your "Final Product" to the Discussion

Along with your final product, your discussion submission will need to included the following:

· A detailed description of the concept, theory, or principle that you have selected.

· An explanation of why you chose this "Text"

· What your application teaches us about the theory and about communication as a whole
