iPad Discussion

This graph below (Figure 1) shows global figures for Apple's iPad sales from the third quarter of 2010 to the company's most recent financial quarter. At the beginning of 2012, the iPad was the leader of the tablet market as Apple’s iPad accounted for almost 60 percent of total global tablet shipments. The company has seen its share decrease over the years and in the fourth quarter of 2016 held only 24.7 percent of the market share. Despite the decline, Apple still remains a market leader. In 2017, Apple seems to be able to stop the declining trend for the first time in several years (see Figure 2). In the second quarter of 2018, 9.11 million iPads were sold worldwide.

1. What are the reasons that may explain iPad’s weak sales and market demand?

2. What strategies can Apple use to boost the sales and market demand of iPad?

You need to post your response to the questions (initial response posting) in your group discussion forum by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. When trying to respond to the questions, you should start your own thread. You will discuss with the same group as you did a couple of weeks before. If you don’t know where to post, please email me. Then by 11: 59 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 you need to comment on at least one other student’s initial response posting. Note that you will be able to read others’ posts after you post your own answers first.

Scoring breakdown:

10 – solid analysis, good thought put into the questions, had substance and furthered the discussion, used proper grammar

7 – ok analysis, used a few sentences to answer each question, had some substance, grammar may be lacking

4 – barely attempted to answer the questions (answers were very short), answers were superficial, used improper grammar

0 – failed to post answers or responses to other people’s posting.
