1.0 Introduction

This assignment is purposed to researching why the Cape York region of far north Queensland’s eminence and the capacity of transportation infrastructure and public transport services have remained underprivileged falling short of the appropriate standards to an active and sophisticated economy, despite a lot of investment over the past years being pumped in the sector. Unprecedented employment growth, increasing populace and revenues has really resulted in an unexpected escalation in transport demand in the economy of Queensland.

Against the backdrop of a high growth economy and employment growth, it has been realized that the services of public transport are not at all giving an option to the use of private cars. It is very devastating that the share of public transport trips in Queensland has continued to decline as time goes on. This has made public transport not to meet the growth in transport demand. Maintenance of a good public transport network is, therefore, a very important issue to address in light of the aging and bulging society (Recio, et al., 2018). Planning and designing the street under the goals ad principles set forward in this paper will help in getting a consistent level of superiority and functionality for the city of Queensland.

In this city, motorization has been accelerating at high speed due to rapid urbanization and economic growth. Many people have been looking forward to owning their vehicles in particular due to the inadequacy and safety issues of public transport services. It is therefore important to come up with a plan for recovering car-dominated development to public transport.

According to this article, the major city of far north Queensland-Cairns is growing at a high rate. The bulging of the population in the major cities, as well as the continued high visitation rate in this area by tourists, calls for the provision of high-quality public transport services to the area. If public transport will be well maintained and easily accessible, then it will mean than the traffic congestion being witnessed will be taken care of.

This is important because it shows how the public transport in the major cities continues being hindered by other personal vehicles making the public transport slow and not easily accessible for instance, in many parts of the Cairns region, busses run in mixed traffic which makes it very hard gaining a sufficient advantage o attracting the required number of passengers to meet the goals of public transport use.

It has also been highlighted that there are long waiting times between some services as well as unreliable bus journey times. In areas such as Mooroobool, norther beaches, and Smithfield, buses are infrequent which makes matters worse. The major reason that has been highlighted as to why there is inconsistency with public transport is a delay as a result of vehicular traffic in entering and exiting the facility.

According to this article, the transport infrastructure of Queensland is seriously not adequate to meet the current needs of the economy and the entire community leaves alone the needs of the growing population. This is because there is an outdated infrastructure that needs to be maintained. Additionally, the inadequate transport networks are some of the biggest issues which are greatly affecting the businesses of Queensland through increased costs, decreased efficiency, and productivity, delays among much other negativity which affect the growth of business in this region by placing a brake on economic growth.

This shows how Queensland desperately needs a plan that will help plan how public transport can be managed and reduce the pressure inserted on the economy due to delays, poor infrastructure among others. Transport networks are greatly struggling to keep pace with demand, with planning, maintenance, and development. The current planning and developments are not able to keep pace with demand which results in overcrowded services during peak hours. There are also notably congested stations in the inner city during peak hours which as a result creates a significant bottleneck limiting the network capacity to increase the traffic volumes. Lack of integrated public transport has therefore been singled out as one of the major issues in Queensland.

According to this article, despite the progress that has been made in Queensland’s infrastructure, there still exist very large gaps that are not yet addressed. In Brisbane for instance, it is only 12 percent of homes that have either access to a bus or train stop. This is the worst of all the cities. Public transport is very crucial since it opens the lives of people to employment, education, recreation among other social services. Having a poor connection, it means that people do not get access to most of the services they require. A livable city should be safe, attractive, cohesive and having affordable housing linked to public transport.

This shows the greater problem of poor accessibility. This is important since it helps unfold the poor transport network. This is especially to a city whose population is expected to grow at a very high rate by 2031 according to the government. The city, therefore, needs a connection to a good public system that will be accessible to the public. This is a system that will be able to emissions and maximize efficiency in increasingly congested cities. A system that will increase the volumes of public transport convenience while amplifying the value of the land which will be installed on.

4.0 Design options

4.1 option1: May suggestions have been put forward some suggestions that highways should be added in the major cities to ease the congestion and smoother public transport. However, highway lanes addition aimed at easing traffic jam is just like to loosen a belt to treat obesity. A transit-oriented development which is an approach of promoting policies urban development in higher density areas is the way to go (Dey, & Chakravarty, 2018). This is where several modes of transport are combined such as the construction of high capacity public transport which is integrated with other forms of public transport. The integration together with other feeder services will help in ensuring that metros, bus rapid transport, light rail system all can entirely make use of their potential as high capacity public transport modes (Furlan, & Sipe, 2017). Apart from this, the fuel quality and vehicle fuel efficiency standards should be improved; development of vehicle emission standards, vehicle inspection and maintenance should also b observed. All these might seem not to carry a lot of weight but in the long term will help achieve incremental benefits to society.

4.2. Option2: Non-motorized transport is one of the major measures that can be taken to address this issue. This includes educating people on using transport means such as walking or cycling. This model has recently shown to be very effective due to the many advantages involved like reduced emission and improved human health. There is a need for ensuring that public transport is reliable and efficient where they must be used. Cutting down the use of private cars is imperative. Bicycle lanes can be constructed to encourage the use of bicycles as opposed to people using their vehicles.

4.3 issues of further investigation

It is important that in future more research is done investigating how the construction of green bridges that are closed down to cycle only can help in changing the views of the people regarding personal vehicle usage. Areas where there are car-free days, it seems wonderful. The cities are very wonderful but just destroyed by the huge traffic.

5.0 conclusions

It has been evident that transport and mobility are very crucial to sustainable growth. When transportation is sustainable, it is capable of enhancing economic development and improving ease of access. It also accomplishes better assimilation of the economy and at the same time respecting the environment. However, it is also important to consider the safety of people to achieve sustainable development.
