Final Essay. The final essay will ask you to reflect on what you have learned about sociology and your observations of how the information in this course affects how you see your position in society at both individual and group levels. Specific requirements and a grading rubric will be available to you in Blackboard. Final Essay Instructions: The purpose of the final essay is to connect the information you have learned from this class to your own life experiences, group memberships, and your own place in society. To do this, you will craft an essay that 1. describes a social group that you are part of and what your role within that group is; 2. examines any two topics from this course and how they apply to your own life and to the group you discuss in part 1; and 3; how understanding more about group, group behavior, and society (or any other sociological topic) by taking intro to sociology may be useful to you in the future. As an estimate, your final paper will be 1.5 – 3 pages with 12 pt. double spaced, Times New Roman font (or other standard font.) Here is a suggested outline of the paper: I. Introduction to the paper. Be sure to include: (10 Points)

a. The group you are going to talk about b. The two topics from the course you are going to discuss

II. The Group you have chosen. Include: a. The group – Did you choose family? A friend group? Sports? Make sure you clearly

identify the group! b. Describe the group as best as you can.

i. Who all is in it? ii. Is it a big group or a small group? iii. Is it a primary or secondary group?

c. Your role/position within the group. d. Why is this group important enough for you to write about? e. How has your understanding about the group changed after taking this course, if it

has? III. Topic 1: You may pick any two topics from the course that interest you, but you

will want to: a. Identify and define the topic. b. Describe how the topic applies to yourself and to the group. c. Discuss how having taken this course, you see this topic differently, or became

aware of it because of this course (it may be that you never really thought about it before, and that is fine).
