According to many scholars who do research on mass media industries, the extreme consolidation of ownership creates several problems, including the following:

· Lack of diversity in voices

· Less focus on local issues

· Less access to unbiased journalism

· Less access to information

Check out the evening schedules on a television network such as ABC, NBC, CBS, or Fox. What kinds of programs do you find there? What kinds of programs do you think are missing?

Now compare the content on the networks with what you find on HBO, Showtime, Netflix, and Hulu.  Do you see the same issues on those outlets as the ones the networks face? Why?
