PEERS POST:

Hello class,

My name is Tori Davies, my husband and I reside in South Carolina with our 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. I worked in public education for 2 years as a special needs assistant. That job was very rewarding and starting my love and passion for children and teaching. Seeing the excitement on a child’s face when they meet a goal or accomplish a task melts my heart and makes all the hard work, I do worth it. I am currently the 2-year-old teacher, after school director, and preschool division head at a Christian academy. I love my job and am so blessed every day to work with children and have a hand in their growth and development. I am excited to continue learning and growing myself to ensure my students every opportunity for success. This class helps me achieve my goal in earning a AA degree in Early Childhood Education.

An English language learner is someone who speaks English as their second language, not their primary. For example, Mexican children who speak Spanish first and learn English second. The primary language is taught at home as an outcome of the family’s culture. English may be learned or taught in the school system.

Second language acquisition is the learning of a second language. This would be the language that one may not speak or have learned based on their culture. For example, a American child who primarily speaks language and is learning to speak Spanish.

Throughout this class I hope to gain additional knowledge about culturally diverse learns and how I can help them be successful in the classroom. My goal is to be able learn new ways and strategies that I can implement in my teaching to help each student grow and develop.

Tori Davies
