Sociology deals with the study of group interactions and groups and social interactions from all sorts of small and big groups of people. Different groups of people have different norms, beliefs and culture depending on various aspects such as demographical differences, races, age, and gender and skin color. Different in wealth statuses create more classes of people. Changing from one group to another is not a simple task since one has to try to fit and practice behaviors they are not used to. For instance, it is difficult for a black American to provide in a group comprised of white friends only since their skin color is a physical difference between the people. American immigrants from different parts of the world do not quickly adapt to American norms since their origins have different norms. Same practices that are ethical in one place may be on only unethical but taboos in other places.
In sociology, statuses are the position that an individual acquires in a particular setting according to their social class. Different people in society occupy different statuses because they play different roles in the background. In the community, a person’s set of values, personalities and norms that are attached to a class (González, 2019). An achieved status is the status that an individual acquires after merits with other individuals in society. In the United States, achieved status reflects values such as a person’s abilities, efforts and skills. On the other hand, ascribed status is what an individual is born with, and no one has the power to control it.
Ascribed status helps remove any difficulties of the achieved status top make an individual complete and helpful to the community and in the same way, achieved status I essential as it eliminates disabilities in the ascribed status. A combination of ascribed and achieved status is critical to a person since it gives the qualities that members of the community should have. In the United States, those members of the society who do not make efforts of getting the community gives ascribed status. After getting the ascribed status, a member of society gets easy ways of making a better-achieved status. Therefore, it would be right as a sociologist to argue that achieved status is the achievements of an individual, and it is always easy to accomplish if one is in a better-ascribed status.
According to research, most of the American citizens are not Native Americans but from other continents in the world. It is believed that only 10% of the Americans form the number that can prove them that they are Native Americans with their ancestors born in America (Roberts, 2019). Gender differences are believed to hinder social interactions by 0.8%, the lowest among all other aspects that undermine social interaction. Race and color discriminations affect social interaction by 20%, making it difficult for people to use different settings of culture. In most cases, Native Americans treat the enemies of social interactions in the country since they think that, being the only group that did not come to America as immigrants, they are the real rulers of the nation. More than 60% of Native Americans do not support social interaction since they believe in racism.
The above discussion show how America has diverged cultural believes and practices. The diversity in the culture has been ignited by the increase of immigration from different parts of the world. The variety has exposed a good number of the country’s population to extreme racism and economic differences.
