What population health issues have affected COVID spread and recovery?
Population health concerns the health and well-being of a specific group of people, such as age, race, location, and gender (Roux, 2020). Population health is crucial because it allows for the identification of structural injustices by law and policymakers, which helps to increase the effectiveness and caliber of care. The COVID-19 pandemic is presently affecting the entire world. However, various population health issues affect the spread and recovery of COVID. The first population health issue affecting COVID spread and recovery is age. Older people may be at an increased risk of COVID-19 symptoms that could be dangerous. Additionally, older people are among the most at risk, with a mortality rate of about 15% (Chhetri et al., 2020). When older individuals have additional medical conditions, their "risks" are even higher.
Second, it has been discovered that poverty fosters the spread of COVID-19 by forcing people to live in close quarters and denying them access to medical facilities and care. As a result, diseases spread more quickly in these communities and contribute to an aggravation of poverty due to illness-related wage losses, medical expenses, and mortality risks (Sahasranaman & Jensen, 2020). The inability of the poor to follow contact reduction and social distance norms in a meaningful way, as well as their lack of access to medical care and pharmaceutical interventions, increases the spread of COVID-19 in these areas.

There are various methods of preventing the spread of COVID-19. First, the ability to maintain immunity and ward off frailty in old age may be aided by ensuring older people get enough sleep, eat healthy food, and frequently exercise (Chhetri et al., 2020). This is because older individuals are more vulnerable to infection due to their weakened immune systems.
Secondly, world communities must address the structural causes of inequality and injustices, such as corporate tax evasion, to combat poverty and poor health (Sahasranaman & Jensen, 2020). It is crucial to eradicate poverty, boost nutrition, ensure that clean water is available to all, and strengthen national health systems.

What population health issues have affected COVID spread and recovery?
Older adults are at highest risk of getting very sick from COVID-19. Almost 81% of COVID-19 deaths occur in people over age 65. The number of deaths among people over age 65 is 97 times than the number of deaths among people ages 18-29 years. A person’s risk of severe illness from COVID-19 increases as the number of underlying medical conditions they have increases. Some people are at increased risk of getting very sick or dying from COVID-19 because of where they live or work, or because they can’t get health care. This includes many people from racial and ethnic minority groups and people with disabilities.

Checking the public health department website for information on COVID-19 in your area and follow local guidelines. Also, avoiding poorly ventilated indoor spaces and crowded areas, even if you are vaccinated. If you are indoors, open windows to help bring in outdoor air, if possible. Spending time outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces can help reduce your exposure to respiratory droplets.
