In this step, you will find scholarly sources for you final paper. Please use the step-by-step guide that was given to you on Friday, October 27th. There is also a PDF of the guide below this entry. More than just listing sources you have/will use for a project, a bibliography serves as a map of scholarship with which you are in conversation.

You should have 2 themes or keywords at this point. Using these keywords you will search on JSTOR and find articles that you think will be helpful to you as you devise an argument and write your paper. You will also find one book that provides background information about migration of the group you are examining.

You must find TWO sources for each of your keywords/themes - for a total of FOUR and one book for your migration group.

For both the articles and book, do not choose the first entry (unless it is relevant of course). Do some work and read through abstracts or introductions to the essays to see what will be most helpful.

FORMAT:

Your annotated bibliography will consist of five entries: TWO for each theme; ONE for the migration group.

Each entry will consist of: a) the appropriate Chicago style citation 2) 3-4 sentences about the main argument and data of the article 3) Why this will be useful in your paper.

Here is an example of what I am looking for:

Warikoo, Natasha. "Cosmopolitan Ethnicity: Second Generation Indo-Caribbean Identities." In Becoming New Yorkers: Ethnographies of the New Second Generation edited by P Kasinitz, J Mollenkopf and M Waters, 361-91. New York: Russell Sage Foundation, 2009.

This article discusses ethnic self identification amongst Indo-Caribbean second generation in New York City. The author claims that these youth have a cosmopolitan ethnicity, an ethnic identity that contains many different cultural forms from a diversity of communities including West Indian, East Indian and African American culture. The research was carried out in a high school where she conducted observation and in-depth interviews. She also looked at  consumption patterns and friendship networks. This article will be helpful for my project because it discusses identity formation of Guyanese Americans, which my interviewee is.
