Perspective on Aging

Summary

My interview with my mom, turned out to be a wonderful experience. When she responded to my inquiries, mom did so with great conviction, and on occasion, she provided me with the knowledge that prompted me to formulate other inquiries. I was successful in obtaining a response to every query that I included in the interview questions. It was simple to chat with her since we had known each other my entire life time, and she did not get irritated when answering any of my inquiries. I made sure to get her dinner from her go-to restaurant and we had a nice conversation while she was eating it.

Primary Concerns

My mom compared her youth to that of today's youth by discussing several topics. Her main worries were related to people's mental health and why they were unable to get the necessary treatment. She was also concern about being a burden on me, and also worried about living off the little money she saved for retirement. My mom has been lonely at home since her and my dad divorced. She expressed her need to socialize but didn’t know how. She also expressed her health and wondering if she will be able to still work in the future.

My reading has taught me a few things that I can relate to some of my mom’s main concern. I felt her fear of the unknown, not sure how things will be for her. My mom stated that at her age you reflect a lot. She didn’t prepare herself for the future. She had never invested in a 401k. She stated her employment didn’t offer it. Everything she stated was a concern of mine. I have had many private pay caregiving jobs whereas many paid caregivers around the clock. My concern would be will I be able to able to pay someone to care for me for at least eight hours. Just like my mom I don’t won’t to interfere with my kids lives.
