Summary

From the interview, the mentioned knowledge gap identified in the field of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is the gap in the implementation of efforts of enhancing global mental health. According to the interviewee, mental disorders have already been mentioned as a major public health issue today and a lot of research done in the various mental disorder, their causes and even prevalence (Barlow, 2018). Even further in many countries across the globe resources to help fight these disorders have been deployed. Despite all this, however, the levels of mental health disorders are in the rise across the globe. This to him meant that the implementation of the efforts has not been successful and therefore there is a gap of knowledge on how to implement activities of alleviating mental disorders in order to cause the intended impact.

He recommended a re-evaluation of the efforts to make sure that they are not only addressing the disorder, but rather the underlying causes to make sure that a more permanent solution is pursued. In exploring these knowledge gaps, he recommended an investigation into the disconnect that exists between the good proposed efforts and unfruitful implementation (Cunico, Fredo & Bernini, 2017). World Health Organization journals and reports can be a major source of information on this because this is an organization that has already started looking into this disconnect. National Institute of Mental health was also mentioned as a good source. For any researcher, he said the best tip he could offer was that the aim should not only be to contribute to knowledge but also ensure that the knowledge being contributed is accurate and based on evidence since this is the only way to make a positive impact in the field and this is the biggest lesson I took from the interview.

Reflection

Information provided in this interview will help guide me in my research by pointing me to possible areas of research, possible objectives, sources of information and providing insight on the best way to go about the research process.
