Interview#2

Aaron (Hospitality Business Major):

The first question for Aaron is that he consider that the new environment for him is a difficult problem. It is really hard for Aaron to find the people who have the same interest with him. For me, I experiences the same feeling with Aaron when I just entering the university. When people face a period change, they need a process of re-adapting to the new environment. Especially for international students who is study aboard by themselves. The inadaptability caused by the periodical changes, they will face a lot of different difficulties: they afraid to speak English in front of other students, cannot keep up with classes, hard to make friends, and feel lonely. Relatives and friends are far apart. Various forces struck one after another, leaving some students unable to hold back. About the most interesting thing experienced in MSU, Aaron told me is working at Starbucks in Wells Hall. Because it is a totally new experience in his life and help him met a lot of new friends from different countries. Aaron thinks that this is also one of good way to relieve stress: “Relatively, international students have similar values and are more likely to become friends.” Aaron has made many friends during he works at Starbucks and understand more cultures from different countries, which also enriches his life.

Interview # 2

Kenny (Hospitality)

Compared to Aaron Zhang, Kenny is a shy boy who is not good at English. For a lot of international students, they afraid to talk with people in English and have a speech in a big class. Kenny told me that he still dare not speak English. Actually, it is very embarrassed that he has been here for some time. He thought he is a man of inferior self-esteem, and especially care about what other people think of him. I think this may be the most important factor Kenny afraid to open up. We all understand that no one really cares whether our pronunciation is standard or not. The key for us is to express our point of view, and do not be afraid to speak out your opinion .I think that the spoken language thing is to be practiced. The less we dare to say, the less we can say. However, most of international student’s first language is not English. It is difficult for them to learn another language and using it to study in a strange country. I think that making international friends from all over the world is a good way for helping international students to improve their oral English and learn more culture from others country.
