1. What does your role at Fiya Inc. Youth Services entail?
As the director of Fiya Inc. I am responsible of managing all the activities that the organization engages in. My role is to make strategic and operational decisions in the organization.
2. As a director, do you encounter hostile youth? How do you deal with hostile youths?
Yes, we do encounter hostile youths especially in the Ghetto. Dealing with hostile youths is very challenging. We do first talk in advance with their leaders before making an arrangement with them and inform them our objectives.
3. When did you decide that devoting your time to the youth was important?
I have always had a passion of helping the youth. My brother got lost in the streets due to drug abuse and ever since then I have wanted to help young people.
4. What systems has the government put in place to facilitate with your services to community?
The government has introduced policies that favor our organization and the youths. They also have programs that we link with to help the youths.
5. As a director, which are the things that you are always looking out for to improve within your organization?
Increasing the number of volunteers in my organization is one of the things that I plan to improve. The population that needs to be helped is big, and we are unable to cater for all of them due to the small team that I have. I believe with a bigger team I will be able to meet the wants of a lot of youths.
6. Do you consider the relationship between the family and the community when making a decision on the way forward to incorporate within your program?
Yes, a community is made up by a combination of families, therefore when coming up with decisions; I do ensure that I incorporate the family in my plans.
7. Is there any special situation that has stuck with you, or made a mark on your life?
Yes, I lost my young brother to drugs
8. Given the opportunity, to speak freely, what would you tell colleagues on the way forward in your career?
Let passion drive one in his or her career.
9. Which family values do you think most families should embrace and what would be the easiest way of embracing them?
Most families should embrace social values. This may be achieved through simple things like having meals together and sharing opinions. Helping each other out and going for vacations together. This brings togetherness.
10. Where do you want your career to lead you to, and how are you going about to achieve this?
