Interpersonal Process Group Instructions: Group 6

Session Theme: Group Termination, Saying Goodbye, and Taking Stock

1. Summarize Last Week’s Group (5 Minutes)

Have someone SUMMARIZE what was covered in last week’s session.

Because of our discussion, what changes, if any, have you made to your personal goals?

2. Design Your Group’s Personal Logo: (10 minutes)

Reflect on your image of the group. Design a personal logo to represent where you are in

relationship to your group. What logo would best represent where you are now?

Draw this logo to share with the group. You may choose symbols of your group’s development, your

personality as a group member, and/or experiences that have shaped your thoughts about the group.

You can use colors to represent significant portions of your identity and emotions. Be creative!

3. Share Your Personal Logo: (15 minutes)

Each member will share their personal logo with the group and do the following:

Explain the significance of the logo.

Reflect on what their logo would look like before the group and what it looks like now.

4. Group Termination (20 Minutes)

This will be the last interpersonal group of this class. This exercise is meant to be a way to say

goodbye to your peers by providing them with feedback.

Each member will take a piece of paper and write each group member’s name on it.

Under each name, write feedback relative to what you learned from/about that person; how that person has helped you, something you will remember, etc. This feedback should be positive and helpful to the person receiving it.

After everyone has finished, the group will select one member who will receive the feedback. Each

member will go around and read what’s written on his/her paper and explaining as necessary.

The person receiving feedback must stay quiet and listen. He/she can only say “thank you” until the

end of the activity.

This process will continue until everyone gets feedback.

5. Activity Process Questions

How was it to verbally hear the feedback from your peers?

How did it feel to write something for someone else?

What surprised you the most about the activity?

Why is it important to discuss termination with clients?

6. Session Process Questions: All members will answer aloud (10 Minutes)

Members are to reflect on their experiences in the group and discuss the following questions. Groups

should take the time to thoroughly answer these questions.

What was it like coming together as a group?

What was most challenging about working together as a group?

What was most surprising about working as a group?

What stages of group development did you see in your group? Cite process observations as

examples.

What would you say was a turning point/memorable moment of your group?

What did you give to the group and what did it give to you?
