Female sexualization is on the rise and scholars are not sure whether the trend shows gendered oppression or female competitiveness.

The association between economic inequality and sexualization is stronger in developed nations.

Female sexualization and physical appearance enhancement are most prevalent in environments that are economically unequal, however, there is no association with gender oppression.
