Pros and Cons of OSINT

One of the advantages of using OSINT is that it is cost-effective. Compared to the traditional tools of collecting information, OSINT is cheaper. Also, OSINT makes the sharing of data an easy process, and it also gives room for the creation of long-term business strategies. However, OSINT also has some disadvantages, which include unreadily availability. For one to distinguish between false and accurate information, one needs large amounts of analytical work. Also, OSINT presents an information overload. In turn, it causes difficulty to source the correct information, especially when one lacks valuable OSINT tools.

OSINT is related to the other sources of intelligence in that the finder can use OSINT to gather information, which will later apply in the other sources. For example, in HUMINT, an FBI agent can source their information and later merge their findings with the research conducted from OSINT. The merging of results does not only apply for HUMINT but the other methods as well. In communication Intelligence, for example, after intercepting information between two parties, OSINT can merge with related information from the media or the direct speech from the specific source.

Emerging IC

From my perspective, the intelligence community is the agencies, whose chief responsibility is gathering, assembling, and reporting information vital to national security. Some of the homeland security and safety. Some of the homeland sectors that can play a significant role in emerging IC is the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the United States Coast Guard division. For the case of public safety, we also have two disciplines, which I believe can also contribute to the emerging intelligence community. These disciplines are telecommunications and public works; public works comprise water, transportation, and sanitation areas.

Emerging IC on a multidisciplinary level implies combining many other disciplines, but they all focus on one target; to find information. These disciplines are continuously evolving as there is more need to seek information and report the findings from such information. As far as intelligence is concerned, I believe that there are some needs, one of which is system dynamics. There is a rise in the market to improve some of the risks in systems and their instability. The second need that I think needs attention is the identification and measuring of threats. The threats range from cyber, military, and political areas. One should ask themselves several questions, such as how the risks occur and the possible outcomes, and the solutions.
