Measuring the closeness of the friends quantitatively can be done by how many of the friends know each other physically from somewhere else other than from the network. Additionally, when one of the friends comes up with a topic of discussion, the number of the other friends that seems to be familiar with what is being talked about can also be used to determine how close they are. If the number is quite low, then the members are not likely to be close friends in real life. If most of the friends also appear to know each other by name, then they are likely to be close outside of the network. Unlike in the qualitative measure where only visible or imaginary aspects are considered, quantitative measurement considers tangible and countable aspects.
