I need a synthesis essay
Instructions for first draft of Synthesis Essay (850 words minimum). You may use first person, but you must limit it. Try to avoid phrases such as “I believe” “In my opinion” because we already know it is your opinion and your believe, obviously! You are the writer. As a rule do not use “I believe” or “in my opinion” in any of your essays for any class.
Also, you have to be careful not to have a high similarity report (less than 19%). When you summarize you must do so 100% in your own words and use small quotes from the article to support your own words. Finally, the works cited page is provided for you at the end of this guide.
Intro must have:
· Hook that grabs the reader
· Author names and titles of ted talk and article
· A sentence main idea of ted talk
· A sentence main idea of article
· Thesis statement that makes your unique point about the issues. For example While both Jones and Ausubel make good points I they do not take into account the….complete it with your argument.
Body paragraph 1:
· Summary of TED Talk
· This summary must be 90% in your own words
· You must use one short quote no longer than two lines long.
· In quoting, use the transcript and include the time at the end. For example, “Plastic pollution is affecting women of” (10:33).
· It must be in third person. DO NOT USE I believe.

Body paragraph 2:
· Having summarized, now you need to analyze
· In analyzing you will need to talk about ideas that you think were powerful, that make sense, that you agree with.
· You will need to quote the TED talk again to point to examples where the speaker is making a great point
· You will need to explain why it is a great point and why you agree
· You also need to read against the grain. This means that you may want to critique it a little bit. Talk about areas that were not convincing. Explain why.
· Or, if you do not disagree with any of his points, talk about things that he could have mentioned but did not or things that were not mentioned that you would have liked him to speak on.

· This summary must be 90% in your own words

Conclusion:
· In different words, repeat the main message of your entire essay
· Explain why the issues being discussed are important
· Leave the reader with a final thought and make them care about what you have written.
