The paper explaining the needs of special offenders and answers the following questions: · How do special needs including mentally ill, and substance-abusing prisoners affect the jail and prison systems at state and federal levels? Mentally ill and substance-abusing inmates are each discussed in the paper. The different types of special needs inmates were also mentioned. (Juveniles, sex offender, elderly, pregnant inmates, terminal illness, etc.) · What would happen if these prisoners were not cared for properly? (Mentally ill and substance-abusing inmates are discussed in this section) Select a prison was a special offender population (juveniles, sex offenders, elderly, pregnant inmates, terminal illness, mentally ill or substance abusing, etc.) and research the program aimed to assist or care for that population. What are the characteristics of the program? How has the program affected the special offender population in that prison? (The program needs to be in a prison and the prison or prison system where is it being used is included in the paper.) |
