Marriage is a private affair

For each response, you should have a strong introduction, body and conclusion that do the following:

Introduction: Briefly sum up the chosen work and the author's background (mentioned in the text). Your last sentence will be your thesis statement, which should clearly mention at least two reasons you liked/disliked the chosen short story. Thesis example: I truly enjoyed Kate Chopin's work, "Story of An Hour" because of the vivid symbolism and the excellent theme dealing with mental freedom.

In the Body of your paper, you should devote at least one paragraph to each of the reasons in your thesis statement, making sure that, for each paragraph, you utilize at least one specific quote from the work to back up each of your thesis points. For example, based on the aforementioned thesis, I will devote a paragraph to vivid symbolism, and one paragraph to a discussion of the theme dealing with mental freedom. In each of those paragraphs, I will bring in at least one specific quote that demonstrates and proves my points.

In the conclusion, you should briefly restate your thesis statement, then finish your discussion by bringing in some general statements about what you may have learned from doing this brief analysis, and how the work is relevant to you, personally.

Each response paper should be at least two pages in length, and typed according to MLA format. Please review the attached model paper from a previous class. The attached paper is also a good example of how you should do the critical analysis paper which will require at least two backup sources. Next week, I will discuss what I mean by utilizing critical sources for your papers.

Remember, no supporting critics are required for each of your response papers, but, to get prepared for the larger analysis, you may want to incorporate some critics even for the smaller response papers.
