Last week, you read "The Sanctuary of School" and "Work Is a Blessing," which are examples of the type of narrative essay you should be writing for GA 4/MA 2. In order to plan for your own work, it will help to analyze one of these examples.

Directions: Choose one of the readings linked above and describe how the author makes the connection from their own story to a larger issue. Is that issue an institution, a policy, a practice, a debate, an idea, a misconception? What happens when the writer shifts from telling the story to making the point? Also try to give specific examples of how the writer makes the connection. What exactly do they say? What gets left unsaid (implied)?Compile your thoughts into a couple of paragraphs, and post your discussion. Be sure to identify which reading you chose to analyze. Keep in mind that you should not focus on summarizing what the writer said but rather examining HOW they said it.
