Memo Assignment

Scenario: Mr. Don Husman, CEO would like to know what the management trainees learn at Pen Inc. He has requested a summary (memo) of what you learned while working with the different departments. This memo should not be about the hands-on exercises but rather what you learned while completing them.

Step 1: Complete chapter 5 and 6 exercises in SAP.

Step 2: Instructions – Memo: Review the Instructions – Writing Assignment document. This memo will have three agenda items which will, in turn, become the body of your memo. The headings must answer the following: What you did during your rotation and what two takeaways did you learn from the experience. End with the conclusion and the Writing Statistics.

Supplemental instruction documents

· OABC Framework video lecture

· Writing Statistics – How to compute

· Must be included at the bottom of your memo

Step 3: Content Requirements: Write about what you learned rather than what you did. Use simple, concise sentences to write this memo. Short sentences are clearer and eliminate the need for punctuation within the sentence. Know and use the three most common comma usage rules when using longer sentences.

Supplemental content documents:

· 8 Comma Rules Video Lecture – Dr. Nancy Hicks

· 8 Comma Rules List

Step 4: Formatting Requirements: Business memos have specific formatting requirements. Use proper block memo format for this assignment. The memo must have single-spaced paragraphs, double spacing between paragraphs, and no indents. Use 11 point font and default margins (1”) top, bottom, and side margins. The length requirement is 350 – 400 words. It must fit on one page. The Writing Statistics can be on a second page.

Supplemental formatting documents:

· OABC Memo Report Template

· Memo example

Step 5: Grading Rubric: Remember to proofread, make revisions, and proofread again. Fix issues before submitting. Any typos are an automatic 0. Upload document to Blackboard.

· Rubric – Grading Criteria
