Argumentative Essay

Part 1: Powerpoint Presentation (40 points)

The student will provide a 7-10 minute power-point presentation regarding the assigned article. In short, the student will teach his/her fellow students everything that they need to know about this article and why this article is important for general knowledge regarding minorities and crime. The powerpoint presentation should include

· the background of the study

· relevant prior research on this topic (if need be, please read and highlight for the class)

· the details of the current study (including the so what? Factor and research questions/hypotheses)

· the data and measures (and provide critique)

· the results (brief summary – numbers not needed unless you think they are particularly relevant and provide information regarding how to interpret the findings)

· the implications of this work

Part 2: Summary Sheet (20 points)

The student will put together a one-page summary (1-2 page single-spaced) of the research article for each of his/her fellow students (25 summary sheets need to be provided - 24 students in the class as well as one for the instructor). This summary should be a cheat-sheet that your fellow students can use to learn the basic goals and implications of this study. This is more than pasting your slides or the writing from your slides on the sheet. The student should populate the following sections

· Title and Authors

· Background

· Research questions/hypotheses

· Data and Measures

· Results

· Major Conclusions/Implications
