Tips for writing well.
READ SEVERAL RESEARCH ARTICLES (AGAIN), GET A FEEL FOR HOW RESEARCH ARTICLES ARE WRITTEN.
Write in complete, coherent, and concise sentences and paragraphs.
Introduce all concepts and define all terms before referencing and discussing them.
Consider the logical order and flow of the paper, both within and across sections.
Build your own arguments and support them with citations to data sources. Do not summarize other sources. This paper is your own research.
DO NOT QUOTE. WHERE NECESSARY, PARAPHRASE.
Be sure to include citations for ALL research claims or statements of fact. If you make a claim, you must have a citation to support it. This is particularly relevant for the introduction. You may make limited claims based on our data in the discussion section without citation, but only as they apply to our data and our study.
All students are strongly encouraged to take their papers to the writing center or otherwise seek outside feedback on the wording, grammar, sentence structure, logic, and flow of papers.
Papers MUST address all items on the attached rubric. The quickest way to lose points is to fail to address sections of or items on the rubric.
