Research-based Persuasive Essay DETAILED OUTLINE ASSIGNMENT (15%) due in Week 8

during Intersession Break, by 11.59pm on the usual day of your lesson.

Note: 10% per day late penalty applies up to max of 5 days.

RESEARCH-BASED PERSUASIVE ESSAY DETAILED OUTLINE Assignment You must submit the following 2 parts in ONE MS Word document:

• Detailed Outline of the Essay (see detailed instructions below)

• Reference page (Including ALL of the sources you plan on using).

• Read the instructions below carefully. Please also edit your work closely. Marks will be lost for

grammatical errors and lack of relevant & reliable sources.

Important tip: Save a copy of the Sample Detailed Outline on Space Exploration and type your own Detailed Outline over it. This will save you time and ensure you are following the correct structure.

Instructions for the RESEARCH-BASED PERSUASIVE ESSAY Outline Assignment: This outline is designed to ensure that you are on track and have begun working on your Research-based Persuasive Essay which is due in Week 10.

DETAILED OUTLINE of the Essay:

1. Introduction Paragraph: Write the FULL introductory paragraph for your essay.

The Introduction should have the 3 parts taught in class:

- Hook

- Background/ Context

- Thesis with 3 supporting points

NOTE: Give ONE citation of a source within the Introduction Paragraph –

either as the Hook or as part of the Background/ Context

(Either quote or paraphrase and give the correct in-text citation in APA format).

2. Body Paragraphs: Write a DETAILED PLAN for the 3 body paragraphs.

a. Write each supporting Point in a topic sentence.

b. Under each topic sentence, indicate the 2 citations (quote / paraphrase) that you will be using

to help support your ideas. Give the correct APA in-text citation, accordingly.

NOTE: There will be a total of 3 x2 = 6 citations for the 3 Topic sentences of the 3 Body paragraphs.

3. Conclusion Paragraph: Write ONE recommendation/ suggestion that you would make in your

conclusion.

-this must just be ONE sentence.

Reference page:

Prepare a reference page based on ALL of your references.

-There should be a minimum of 4. These should come not come from unreliable sources like Wikipedia,

blogs or advertisements / sales promotions but from reliable sources such as dailies (newspapers) or

magazines, trade or industry publications and research journals.

-Please use the George Brown APA Guide in the Library Learning Commons website as a guide to check

the correct APA format when creating your reference list even if you click “cite”.
