Cultural Presentation: Due By Week 8

Students will choos by the end of week 2 from the list of cultural groups that are posted in the week 2 assigment and prepare a PowerPoint presentation presentation with a minimum of 10 slides (No counting first and reference page). Preparation for the presentation will include synthesizing the information from readings regarding the choosen culture, the scientific literature, Internet resources such as CDC, Department of Health, Census Beaurea or others reliable government websites (wikippidia and other websites will not be accepted as references), and other sources.

Please post by the end of week 2 in the forum title “Cultural presentation” in the discussion tab of the blackboard the cultural group that you choose.

This presentation should address the following: History, values and worldview, language and communication patterns, art and other expressive forms, norms and rules, lifestyle characteristics, relationship patterns, rituals, degree of assimilation or marginalization from mainstream society, and health behaviors and practices. In addition to describing these characteristics, the presentation must include (a) a comparative and contrast analysis of common characteristics and distinguishing traits between the groups,(and (b) a discussion of differential approaches needed by health care professionals. Grades will also be based on the overall quality of the professional presentation including handouts and references. The presentation is due by the end of Week 8.

Here are some examples of cultural groups;

African-American

Asian-American

Pacific Islanders

Native American

*Hispanic and Latino American

Germans

Jewish (Israelis)

Indians

Africans

Europeans (specfy the country/culture)

*Hispanics and latinos are similar but are not the same. Latinos are those who speake a language with Latin language roots and include Hispanics. Hispanics are those that come from the Spanish roots.

A minimum of 3 references must be used.
