2,000-2,500 words essay base on a novel

Paper length:2,000-2,500 words(approximately 6-8pages). The most important factor in determining your grade is the soundness of your argument, and how well you go about proving your thesis. Being unnecessarily verbose is not necessarily going to work in your favor.

Reminders: Papers should be in academic prose, and should be checked carefully for spelling, grammar, punctuation errors. Avoid generalizations or aphorisms, be as specific as possible by citing concrete passages from the text, and referring directly to the language of each text. Do not summarize the plot or explain events in the narrative. Citations can be Chicago style or MLA.

You are in no way required but may choose to include secondary sources if they can be found and if they are relevant to your topic. Please be sure to cite all your materials.

The paper will be evaluated on the presence of a clear and original thesis, coherent structure and organization, richness of your evidence/argumentation, and consistency of style.

In your essay, you may analyze some longer passages (at least 4 lines or longer in length) or choose multiple shorter passages that all relate to the common theme.

Remember, this is a close reading assignment. That means you shouldn’t be spending lots of words on summarizing plot, providing background on the author, or explaining the lead up and context for your passages. Rather, pay close attention to what’s going on in the passage: the language, tone, and the effect created.
