Topic : Business and Climate Change
• Climate change is a major issue for businesses. What are some problems that business operations cause, and what can regulators do to address them?
Use one of the following structures to write in six paragraphs a 1,500-1,800-word response to your chosen question, in the Problem-solving genre. You may structure your response as follows:
• Situation, Problem 1, Problem 2, Solution 1, Solution 2, Evaluation
• Situation, Problem 1, Solution 1, Problem 2, Solution 2, Evaluation
• Situation, Problem 1, Solution 1, Solution 2, Solution 3, Evaluation (consult your tutor for approval)
• Situation, Problem 1, Problem 2, Problem 3, Solution 1, Evaluation (consult your tutor for approval)
Use the appropriate paragraph structure (in the correct order) for each paragraph:
1. Situation: 1. Background 2. Thesis statement 3. Outline 4. Significance
2. Problems: 1. Topic sentence 2. Elaboration 3. Example 4. Interpretation 5. Explanation (optional) and Link to next paragraph
3. Solutions: 1. Topic sentence 2. Elaboration 3. Example 4. Interpretation 5. Explanation (optional) and Link to next paragraph
4. Evaluation: 1. Evaluation 2. Significance 3. Limitations 4. Suggestions/Applications
You may use more than one sentence for each of these parts (except for your thesis statement and topic sentences).
Include a Reference List (not included in the word count), and use the AMJ referencing style to document all of your sources in both the body of your essay and your reference list.
Approved references:
The approved references for both topics are posted in the Research Paper assessment folder on Blackboard. You must use at least eight (8) distinct sources from the approved list (you can use these as many times as you like); but you may not use any additional sources not on the list.
NOTE:
• You may use a reference in any part of your paper, except the Thesis Statement and Topic Sentences, because they must be original.
• Every reference used within the body of your paper must appear in the Reference List; and every source listed in your Reference List must be used at least once in the body of your paper. • Any information or idea that you use from any of your sources that is not either referenced or paraphrased will be regarded as plagiarism.
Required mark-ups: Highlight your work as follows, and use your highlights to check that you have all of the required parts of the problem-solving genre.
Label
• each paragraph in the left margin (e.g., Problem 1, Solution 1);
• the parts of your paragraphs (e.g., Background, Thesis Statement, Significance, Topic Sentence, Elaboration, Example, etc.) in the right margin.
Underline
• the keywords in your Background and Thesis Statement;
• the keywords in your Outline and each of your Topic Sentences.
• to link the keywords in your Background and in the Thesis Statement;
• to link the keywords in your Outline to keywords in each of the Topic Sentences. If the Topic Sentence is on a different page, you may use a number to indicate the keyword, as shown in class
Use this Problem solving Genre

Key words in the outline should be linked to the key words in topic sentence.
