1. Pick a recent M&A case and perform in-depth due diligence on it

2. Start from Market Research; the key is to find which factors will significantly affect the selected industry/company

3. Conduct industry analysis and convert your qualitative findings to quantitative model assumptions (on the target company's sales/costs/assets/liabilities)

4. Perform company analysis, including SWOT analysis and historical financial data analysis  

5. Perform a deep research on the synergy effects and the integration impact on the case (e.g. tax advantage, strategy/info system consolidation, cannibalization issue and antitrust influence etc.)
