Organic Cleanser Inquiry

Student Name:

The Question:

How does the type of functional group affect a chemical's ability to be an effective cleaner?

PART 1: Introduction Write a paragraph or paragraphs introducing the experiment, starting with a general purpose, pertinent background information (course material or research) in the body of the text and concluding with a specific purpose and hypothesis.

PART 2: Materials & Procedure Write up your method concisely in third person narrative, making sure to control as many variables as possible. List materials and number the method. Be specific in both as someone should be able to duplicate your experiment from the method. Be efficient (usually: one trial, repeat for internal trials, repeat for external trials). Account for safety or disposal concerns.

PART 3: Observation Table Gather all the necessary data during your experiment and include it in the results section in a neat and organized table. Units should be embedded in the table, not repeated in the observations. Label the table on the upper left with detail, including the number of the table. Left to right readership.

PART 4: Discussion - Restate the purpose and hypothesis - Discuss results and comparison to the hypothesis - Discussion of results with respect to literature and/or course work - If necessary, discuss error (not idiocy and/or improvements and/or next steps/further research) - Implications and applications of results

PART 5: Appendix - Any sample calculations or necessary apparatus diagrams (and associated procedure) - Appropriate titling of appendices, tables and/or figures

SAFETY: Read SDS/HHPS on the cleanser

INDEPENDENT: either the stain OR the cleanser
