 I.         Main Point: Our first main point is audience-centeredness. Audience-centeredness is defined as keeping the audience in the forefront of your mind during all stages of speech development and presentation.

A. Audience-centeredness is important while preparing a speech. You want to be aware of who is in your audience. What do they know already? What might be inappropriate?

                  1.      Support material: According to Sean Maulding, in his 2019 article Keeping your audience from talking while you’re teaching from the journal of misspellings, “96% of students in a comm 120 class will get bored if the material isn’t related directly to them. This results in unnecessary side conversations and cell phone use.” This becomes a problem, because you worked on your speech and the information is important for the audience to know. (Don’t highlight in your outline. I’m merely showing how to explain why you chose to use what you did from your source.)

            B. Audience-centeredness is also great while you present.

1. Your audience is going to react in real time to your words. You should be mindful of that.

2. If you don’t change your speech to meet the needs of the current audience, someone will yawn audibly.
