Specific Purpose: To inform my audiences to distinguish Asian Parenting style and Western parenting
style.
Central Idea: Introducing Western American and Asian parenting style, finding strengths of each and
analyze the difference between these two parenting styles.
Introduction
Ⅰ. According to my audience survey 85% people wonder know how Asian parents raise such successful
kids.
A. Due to the differences of traditional culture and social system between the Asian and the
western, parenting styles in Asia and western show great differences in many aspects.
B. Asian and western education have their respective patterns which cultivated different type
human resources.
Ⅱ. In my speech, I will inform you to distinguish Asian Parenting style and Western parenting style,
and I will be covering the following these ideas: Western parenting style, Asian parenting style,
Difference between these two parenting styles.
(Transition: Let’s start with self-reliance awareness)
Body
Ⅰ. Western parents cultivate their children's self-reliance awareness and independent living ability from
childhood.
A. They do not take pains to influence their children's future, but they focus on free
development of children and strive to cultivate children into social environment.
1. Children can adapt to various environments and have independent living ability.
2. Their parenting style is cultivate children with a pioneering spirit who can become
independent.
3. In this imperceptible process, the child gradually grows into an independent and
responsible citizen.
B. Western parents pay more attention to the emotional communication with
children and care about children's psychological needs.
1. Parents think happy education as an important education content.
2. They often discuss problems with their children.
C. Western parents attach great importance to conducting "character
education" on children from daily behaviors and emotions.
Ⅱ. Asian parents more focus on cultivating their children’s learning and anti-pressure ability.
A. Most Asian parents believe that “let your child win on the starting line.”
1. Asian parents spend approximately ten times as long every day drilling academic
activities with their children.
2. they would not give their children free time, they ask their children to take many
tutorial classes.
B. Asian students who are under severe stress in their studies may develop their ability to
cope with stress.
1. the author Ruth K. Chao states that almost 70% of the western students feel
enormous pressure in Juniors or seniors in American universities.
C. In a way, Asian parenting style is a successful way to raise their children.
Ⅲ. Most of parents believe that the basic of the modern society is the talent.the first school of the kids
is family.
A. Imitating the Western parenting style is good or not for the development of the children and
what is the influence to the sociality.
1. The parent in Asia is paying more attention to the school performance.
2. Many children in cities have family tutors and more and more children
have to learn a lot before they go to school.
3. Parents want their children to become somebody or to live better when they grow.
B. The parent in western, they will have their own personality mind.
1. No matter the parents or the relatives, they have no chance to do a choice for their
kids.
2. The parents think their kids can search his conscience.
C. The parents in china control the moves of the kids, they will think that their kids is too
small to do everything.
(Transition: So, I think everyone might have some understanding of distinguishing these two parenting
styles. )
Conclusion
Ⅰ. In short, there are many differences between Asian and Western parenting style and each has its
strong points and weak points.
A. We should reject the dross and absorb the cream of them, advance the family educational
modernization instantaneously.
