General Purpose: to inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about religious freedom and equality.
Thesis: religion for many decades is a respected aspect and human right that any individual can enjoy. However, on several occasions’ faith has been used for the wrong reasons, such as mass killing, politics, and personal gratification, which has led to some restrictions on religion. However, this has turned from impediment to discrimination, which is an impending menace facing many societies globally.
Introduction
Attention getter: are you proud of your religion? How many religions even exist globally, and what are the most fundamental aspects of them? Or which is the best religion to follow. These are some of the major questions that were searched in google on religion in 2019 and 2020, among many other questions (shows a visual aid from Google statistics). Religious freedom is considered a vital human right, especially in the US. In one way or another, you must have noticed that most people are often cautious and skeptical when dealing and interacting with Islamic religion individuals. On the other hand, Christianity has been faced with numerous criticism and controversies, primarily due to innumerable churches' availability all practicing Christianity.
Preface: Today, I will be informing you on religious freedom and how to maintain equality among various individuals from distinct religions. Additionally, we look at why religious liberty is a hot debate and how equality can lead to non-discrimination, especially in the United States.
Transition) now that we are all familiar with today discussion and with no much ado let's dive in and look at religious freedom,
Body
According to the first amendment, it states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise therefor." However, religious liberty has continuously been controversial in its executing. Unfortunately, politics has anchored religion in most cases in that discussions on religion are polarized, mainly because they give an in-depth nature into how individuals view the world, which is contrary to the adage's saying don’t mix religion and politics. The 1st amendment compels the government not to prefer any religion and, consequently, hinder any individual from practicing their faith. The amendment also ensures that the church and the state don't rule over each other, giving Americans the right to have a religion or not. (Transition) what about equality?
The right to equality has for long engaged legal philosophers, practitioners, and all involved parties. Any people, especially in power, assume that equality reflects two distinct sides; however, closer attention argues that the principles dealing with equality operated differently depending on jurisdictions. Since equality is a framework of religion, exceptions should not be made. All religions advocate for equality, and thus, the government should respect this. Allowing religious freedom with not interferences ensure equality proportionally. (Transition) finally.
The fiery disputes about how freedom of faith can and should be reflected in practice have led to controversies over God's mention in the Pledge of Allegiance, the showing of the Ten Commandments in public spaces, and the denial of service based on a religious belief by corporations. The problem is especially prevalent around Christianity, which in the United States occurs in many areas of public life, inspire of it being a dominant religion.
Conclusion
Pro religion individuals argue that this kind of freedom gives people the right to make choices on whom to interact with, employ, or to have a specific following to define an individual (transition) emphasis.
Religious freedom and equality are all protected in the constitution. This means that any individuals can associate with any affiliate religion so long as they are acting within the law. Religion should not be a basis for discrimination, and thus we should integrate, promote love and equality, and this will aid us in having a harmonious state in our country.
Memory statement: if we avoid political integration in our religion, it encourages total religious freedom as the law demand, and also faith is a crucial identity for most individuals; thus, it should be respected.
