One of the best ways to learn about a career is to speak to someone currently working in the field. It is also a great way to network and make connections for future opportunities. For this assignment, you will interview a person who is currently performing the type of career you are interested in or would like to know more about. The person you interview must possess some type of training and/or education beyond high school. The person you interview cannot be an immediate family member. The interview can be person-to-person, virtual (Zoom, FaceTime), email, or a telephone interview. Length of Paper: 1- 2 pages, typed, 12 pt font, 1-inch margins, double spaced, essay format. No question/answer format accepted. Your interview and paper should involve the following types of information collection and reporting:

Information about the individual (This information must be included in your paper)

• Name • Career Title, Organization • Level of Education • Phone Number or email

Additional questions for the interview. You can choose the questions below to help you complete the assignment. Use as many questions as possible.

Information about the person’s career

• How did you choose this profession? • How did you prepare to enter this field? • Where did you go to school? • What was your major? • Are you happy with your work?

Information about the person’s current position

• What do you like about what you do? • What don’t you like about your work? • How much do you travel? How often/how long? • How many hours do you work each week? How much work do you take home? • What are some of the toughest situations you have encountered?

Information about the company / organization

• What kind of people does your organization hire?

• Does your organization promote from within? • Where do you see the company heading? How is it being positioned for the future?

Information about the field

• What are some of the possible career paths within the field? • What are some of the challenges and major issues confronting professionals in the field

today?

Advice

• What advice do you have for me or others considering a career in this field? • What do you wish you had known before you entered this field? • What courses, certifications and/or other credentials do you recommend for this field?
