Methods Section of Health Studies Paper over Autism

Participants

Caucasian 3-year-old female participant was chosen from the special needs education program in Washington DC Preschool. For research purposes, the subject participant involved had a prior diagnose of Autism Spectrum Disorder from a medical professional.

Measures

During the yearlong program study, three evaluations were conducted to evaluate the effects of the Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention: Applied Behavioral Analysis on the young subject.

1. The first assessment/evaluation was conducted at the beginning of the study before therapy was introduced: -Expressive language skills, communication, surrounding awareness, receptiveness to noise, and attention were all tested.

2. At the halfway mark through the program each category was tested again for data purposes.

3. At the end of the yearlong therapy study each category was tested for the third time completing the research study.

Procedure

Subject was implemented into a yearlong home-based program that entailed Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention: Applied Behavioral Analysis. Five days a week, subject spent three hours with ABA certified professionals and parents. ABA professional guided parents to implement ABA therapy. ABA professional worked with subject and parents on all five categories from evaluation: Expressive language skills, communication, surrounding awareness, receptiveness to noise, and attention.

Materials

Only materials used were music, letter boards and the assess to ABA certified personnel.
